The global warming ship has sailed. Wildland Urban Interface fires (WUI), extreme weather, smoke events, hurricanes, floods, droughts, are going to happen more frequently and in more places. Our two best strategies are to do everything possible to slow down global warming and build resilient buildings.
This session will focus on the following issues:
- WUI building codes on the West Coast.
- Best practices for reducing structure fire risk in the residential built environment.
- IHBS Wildfire Prepared certification program to lower fire risk in residential new construction and existing homes. May meet WUI codes and lower insurance rates.
- Forest fire smoke and strategies to improve indoor air quality.
- EPA Indoor Air Plus certification program.
- Renewable + battery strategies for power outages.
- Strategies for flooding and sea level rise in the residential built environment.
- Hurricanes and the new Fortified building certification program for reducing hurricane risk in the residential built environment.
