Heat Pump Options Under The Proposed 2026 ORSC

The proposed code will require, in most cases, homes being built with a central split system air conditioner to be built with a system that is capable of both cooling and heating, in other words, a heat pump. This requirement presents builders with a wide array of choices, ranging from a dual fuel system that uses a gas furnace with an attached heat pump to a heat pump capable of meeting the heating and cooling loads at design conditions.

This session will focus on the pluses and minuses of each approach, including the operating costs of each choice
