High-Performance Windows

Windows can be beautiful, but for builders trying to achieve high energy performance targets, they can also be a real challenge. Come hear the latest information on new developments in windows research from the building scientists at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, ranging from low-tech to high end solutions. We’ll describe research on window attachments like low-emissivity storm windows and how findings have helped support new utility incentives and an ENERGY STAR certification. We’ll describe field testing of a new thin triple-pane window that is no thicker or heavier than a standard double pane but provides R-5 or better insulation levels. Details on upcoming PNNL Lab Home research into shades, awnings and automation will also be discussed
